Job Description:

  • Support the management of planning diaries against all corporate requirements to plan future media and communication activity and events within the Communications department
  • Supervise own staff and functional activity effectively, planning and allocating resources
  • Coach and mentor own staff to encourage optimum performance for work and behavioural standards
  • Provide editorial leadership and direction to the wider Communications team
  • Ensuring messaging is consistent to a wide range of audiences
  • Ensure any relevant spokespeople are appropriately briefed on relevant subjects
  • Deal with interviews and communications activity in a professional and informed way
  • Use all forms of relevant media appropriate to the target audiences
  • Ensure the widest and most effective coverage is achieved in a responsible manner, as required
  • Manage contracts for all related service providers
  • Record, monitor and evaluate the success of all related functional activity
  • Maintain and enhance personal professional knowledge in own expertise area, undertaking training as necessary

Person Specification:

  • Journalistic qualification or relevant communications qualification e.g. National Council for the Training of Journalists, or equivalent relevant degree
  • Previous experience working within a busy and corporate fast moving news-focused press office / corporate communications team
  • Appreciation of the requirements of journalism and communications and can demonstrate this through the experience gained
  • Direct practical experience of handling press enquiries in a constantly changing landscape
  • Possesses a comprehensive understanding of broadcasting and media industries
  • Proven experience of developing strategy and delivering against it to achieve corporate aims
  • Demonstrate proactivity and initiative to build successful media strategies to enhance reputations
  • Has a high degree of interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Understand and has a proven ability of working collaboratively with key stakeholders
  • Can demonstrate attention to detail and an awareness of the ‘bigger picture’ to ensure that all activities are conveying a consistent professional message

Additional Information:

  • Based in Leatherhead
  • £40,000
  • 35 hours a week, Monday – Friday
