The role

We are now looking to recruit a Sales Manager to be responsible for all commercial activity for both Barrett Engineering steels SW & Barrett steels SW across both the Bristol and Exeter sites managing 8 sales executives – internal and external.

You will define and lead sales activities so as to maximise Business Profitability. 

Develop robust sales plans that seek to secure profitable market share and gross margin growth through a combination of new business and the exploitation of existing accounts to their fullest potential while minimising the cost to serve.

Develop, publicise and apply a business commercial operating policy, informed as appropriate by the Group, in order that the sales team understand the limits of their authority on pricing, credit etc.

Develop, publicise, apply and monitor customer service standards that seek to build customer retention levels.

Personally lead negotiations with major and potential major customers and through regular meetings, build relationships to maximise commercial opportunities with them.

Ensuring that effective systems of control and information exist, routinely monitor sales performance against plan in order to maximise profit potential and where necessary initiate action to bring that performance “back-on-track”.

Ensure that operations, including those undertaken on the Company’s behalf by third party service providers, are conducted in manner that fully complies with health and safety, quality, environmental and corporate policies.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate success in a similar role plus be a highly skilled negotiator.

Requiring highly developed leadership skills, the job holder must have demonstrated managerial success and have the ability to create a high level of trust between commercial, planning and operational functions.

Excellent communication skills and strong analytical ability would also be advantageous.

The ability to work under pressure and to tight timescales
